BARRELS Triangle Cross Winter Buckle Series Finals 2012-2013 KIPLINGER ARENA - MCCOOK NE Triangle Cross Quarter Horses and Deb Christy, each winter produces a Winter Buckle Barrel Racing Series that starts in November and runs through March, having 6 separate jackpots and then a Finals' weekend of barrel racing to wind up the series. This year March 23 and 24th was the Winter Buckle Series Finals. All the jackpots and the Finals are held at the Kiplinger Arena, Red Willow Fairgrounds, McCook, NE. As Winter ends and Spring nears, weather factors in, always! This year a spring snowstorm swept through the mid-states region separating out the hardiest barrels racers and rewarding them with near perfect indoor conditions… if they could get to Christy's Finals! Throughout all of her jackpots and including her Finals, points are tallied and kept and prizes are awarded to the series high point earners. (Beautiful awards are given down to 4th in each division.) With 76 contestants braving the roads on Saturday and 81 on Sunday, both days were packed full of fast runs, hard riding men and women, terrific barrel horses. Thanks to Charlie Collins and Steve Christy, the near perfect ground conditions (along with outstanding horses) gave the Segelke Family and their standout horses a chance to move the arena record…not once, or twice, but three times!!! The previous arena record was set last summer at the Roper Apparel and Footwear Barrel Futurity when jockey Hallie Melvin rode French Streak To Vegas to a 15.47. Their time held until the first few runners at Christy's Saturday Winter Finals and Paxton Segelke guided her sister's great horse HPQ Smokin Rascal to a 15.407. The crowd went wild until just moments later when Barb Powell jockeyed her mare, 014 Four Reb to a 15.401…another roar went up!!!! Literally, the cheers barely died down while Hayden Segelke riding Rascal's half-brother, One Cheer Ta Fame came down the alley to smoke a 15.335!!! Their runs just set the pace for the day…people were upbeat all day and thrilled to be in out of the spring snow storm, running in a fantastic barn with great ground…festive was the atmosphere!!!! Deb Christy riding Streakin Senor Dash posted a 15.885 to win the 2D while Nancy Molzahn on Watch Me Play Ray won the 3D with a 16.346 and winning the 4D was Kim Post on CCC Docz Bay Leo with a 16.937. Deb Christy added a Futurity Side pot to the Open 4D's each day and Samantha Flannery riding UX Sweet Vanilla Fame, (by Born To Be Famous out of Frenchmans Princess by Frenchmans Guy buckskin mare)with a 15.616 on Saturday and a 15.649 on Sunday won the 2 day average (31.265). Cash N Time and Lynn Kohr (sorrel Gelding by Dashing With Cash and out of Good Times N Cash by Docs Bueno Dinero) won second on Saturday with a 15.928 and 3rd on Sunday with a 15.929 to win 2nd in the average with a 31.857. Lynn Kohr on CM Dynamite Shake(buckskin gelding by CM Dynamite Frost out of CM Special Shake by Special Shake) was 3rd in the average with a combined time of 32.037. Futurity side pot average winner awards were: 1st place in the average received a beautiful hand tooled halter. 2nd place in the average received a fly sheet donated by Kohr Quarter Horses. The winner of each go of the futurity side pot also received a bag of Formula 707 Calming Pellets, generously donated by 707. Sunday, March 24 broke cold and snowy but warmed up with sun filled skies! A few more barrels racers skated on the icy roads to McCook for the last day of the Triangle Cross Winter Buckle Series. Deb Christy had 81 in the Open 4D! Brenda Delano riding her beautiful sorrel mare, Blazie Fast Freckles, won the 1D with a fast 15.478! Winning the 2D was Macee James on Mr Hef with a15.992, the 3D was Hayden Segelke on Faded Fling with a 16.505 and the 4D was Carla Honeyman on NR Gracie with a 17.097 . While all of the contestants at the Triangle Cross Winter Buckle Series enjoyed $500 added in each day of the Open 4D(sponsored by Triangle Cross Quarter Horses) and $250 added each day in the Futurity Side Pot (sponsored by Flannery Barrel Horses and LW Ag Enterprises, LLC of Holdrege NE), Deb Christy rolled out the red carpet for the Year End High Point Winners with amazing awards!!! TRIANGLE CROSS WINTER BUCKLE SERIES HIGH POINT WINNERS received: a Maynard buckle for 1st place and a Formula 707 Gift Certificate; 2nd place was a royal blue fleece winter blanket and Formula 707 Gift Certificate; 3rd place was a Kensington Tote bag and a set of Gale Beebe barrel reins; 4th place was a tub with horse treats and grooming stuff. Year End High Pint Winners were: 1D winners and their points were: 215 Barb Powell, 209 Brenda Delano, 152 June Holeman, 149 Kelly Koeppen. 2D winners and their points were: 214 Marci Bartlett, 101 Deb Christy, 86 Nancy Molzahn, 80 Rose Hildebrandt. 3D winners and their points were: 152.5 Nancy Molzahn, 123.5, JennaRolland, 102.5 Kim Post, 100 Clint Milliman. 4D winners were and their points: 185 Deb Christy,153 Jordyn VanRyswyk, 138 Jessica Milliman, 130 Vicky Brown.
