4 The WRANGLER, Horse and Rodeo News • October 20 - November 4, 2020 Hanssen and Tres Movidas - Queens of the Pink Buckle Wri en by Hope Raley South Dakota barrel horse trainer Hallie Hanssen has dedicated her life to training great horses, and now with the introduc on of barrel racing incen ve programs and events such as the Pink Buckle, Hanssen is star ng to reap the benefits of her years of hard work and dedica on to the sport of barrel racing. Hanssen and the 8-year-old mare Tres Movidas dominated the Pink Buckle held at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Oklahoma in early October. The stunning mare with the mane that flows below her shoulders is owned by Tom Jacobs and is by the great stallion Tres Seis and out of the NFR mare Sheza Blazin Move by Blazin Jetolena. Hanssen trained "Vida" and the dynamic duo has done very well over the past few years at the futuri es, derbies, and rodeos. Described as a very consistent and solid mare, "Vida" makes the same run every me and Hanssen describes riding her as "floa ng on air". In their first run at the Pink Buckle, Hanssen could feel that "Vida" was running hard and when they announced their me, Hanssen could hardly contain her excitement. "I was so excited when they announced my me because not only did we win the round, but Vida ran the fastest me she had ever ran on a standard pa ern!" For their second run at the Pink Buckle, Hanssen made sure that she had it in her mind to go out there and let "Vida" make the same run she always makes. "She didn't let me down and was absolutely flawless and be ered her first go round me!" Hanssen and "Vida" won both rounds in the open and the average at the Pink Buckle, adding $49,505 to the mare's life me earnings. "Vida's" life me earnings exceed over $200,000 and she is now Tres Seis' top barrel racing earner. 2020 has been an interes ng year for Hanssen and "Vida" as "Vida" unexpectantly checked in foal late last fall a er doing embryo work on the mare. A er having her baby this spring, Hanssen was not sure how the mare would come back a er baby. "I guess I always hoped I would have the same horse a er she had her baby, but I actually think she just gets be er and be er," Hanssen explained. "I have always had great respect for Vida, but a er she had her baby and then went on and won the Pink Buckle the way she did, I think my level of respect for her sky-rocketed!" As far as 2021 goes, Hanssen plans to take "Vida" to some rodeos and WCRA events, along with as many of the big paying open races they can a end. When asked about any future plans on making a run for the Wrangler Na onal Finals Rodeo, Hanssen explained although she would love to make a go for it, she cannot go to as many rodeos as the other girls chasing an NFR qualifica on due to her training business. However, Hanssen did tease that we may or may not see "Vida" run at the WNFR in a few weeks! Hanssen would like to extend a big thank-you to the owners of Tres Seis for enrolling him into the Pink Buckle and giving Tres Movidas and her the opportunity to run at such a premier event. "I cannot thank the owners of Tres Seis, and the owners of the other stallions that are enrolled, enough for paying their stallions into a program such as the Pink Buckle," said Hanssen. "I would also like to thank the Pink Buckle for having the event and pu ng in all the hard work to be er the barrel racing industry." Lastly, Hanssen would like to thank Tom Jacobs- the owner of "Vida", because "without him believing in me and my training program, I would have never go en the opportunity to have Vida in my barn!" Also, Hanssen would like to thank her sponsors for their con nued support- Pla num Coach, Tami Semas Barrel Saddles, Troy Flaharty Bits and Spurs, Flexineb, Magnawave, Omega Fields, Cowgirl Tuff Co., Hubbard, MVP Pharmaceu cals, Bimeda, and ESMS.
