Oh! the places you'll go! Miss Rodeo Wyoming Associa on is going on the road to bring our clinics to a town near you. Our road trip began in Thermopolis, WY on Sunday April 17, at the Hot Springs County Fairgrounds. We also journeyed to Gille e, Wyoming on April 25th, and Big Piney, Wyoming May 1st. Trying a new format this year, MRWA is bringing informa on sessions to our local communi es in an effort to renew interest and par cipa on in rodeo royalty. These clinics cover what it means to be rodeo royalty and how your experience can take you on a journey along the road to success! Par cipants at our Thermopolis, WY clinic brought valuable experience across a range of ages, tles and royalty experience; including young ladies that have not previously held a tle. Par cipants were treated to gi bags and lunch provided by associa on members Secretary Pam Rivers, Na onal Director Crystal Myers, Treasurer Sallie Waters, Membership Chair Debbie Christensen, and Associa on Members Chris and Larry Bentley. Topics presented through in-person and video presenta ons included Agricultural Advocacy, Careers a er Queening and What it Means to be a Queen. Video presenta ons from Miss Rodeo Wyoming 1997 Kerin (Castle) Clark and Amanda Radke focused on advoca ng for the industry of Agriculture and rodeo royalty's role as an advocate. A endee Melissa Timpany, Big Horn Rodeo Circuit Royalty Director commented on the topics presen ng. Melissa, who "came up queeing" said, "a queen is not just the grand entry." She also stated she appreciated MRWA bringing clinics to different communi es around the state allowing her to bring seven girls with her. Melissa also said she appreciated the one day format. In addi on to hearing from MRW 1997 Kerin (Castle) Clark and Ag advocate Amanda Radke, par cipants heard from Miss Rodeo Wyoming 2018 Morgan Wallace. Morgan spoke about her road to rodeo royalty beginning with two local pageants, her me as MRW 2018 and her experience at the Miss Rodeo America pageant. Morgan, who currently works for the Professional Bull Riders Associa on as a social media specialist while also working with Miss Rodeo America Jordan Tiernay on social media presence. Morgan encouraged par cipants to never give up on their dreams, dare to take the road less traveled and remember your me as rodeo royalty is a valuable experience for your future. Bri any (Richards) Board, Miss Rodeo Wyoming 2011 and MRWA Media Specialist, and Jamie (Pond) Cobb, MRWA Scheduling Coordinator and former MRW contestant spoke about their roads traveled as rodeo royalty and how their experiences lead them to where they are today. Both Bri any and Jamie spoke about their me as rodeo royalty which included successes, heartbreaks, opportuni es, skills, grit and above all else how their experiences have helped them both become successful in their chosen career fields. Myth bus ng was also part of the day. Par cipants were provided a "parking lot ques on board" to post ques ons throughout the day. A endee Haleigh Zierke, (age 10) Miss Cowley Rodeo Princess A endant stated that she wants to be a queen. When asked if she knows what queens do, Haleigh said, "they put you on crazy horses." Haleigh was assured that the rodeo volunteers and stock contractors do not inten onally put visi ng queens on "crazy horses." Clinicians shared their experiences of when their horsemanship skills were tested and the importance of managing reac ons to feisty horses. Because a endees included young ladies who had never held a tle, those that had just won their first tle and experienced tle holders, general knowledge such as arena and rodeo e que e, thanking sponsors, the importance of Thank You notes, how to create biography's for rodeo and parade announcers, general rodeo knowledge, equine science and interac ng with the general public were also covered. Ashlynn Fink is running for her first tle, 2021 Miss Lovell Rodeo Queen, a ended hoping to get some ps that will make her successful. SieAnna RealBird, 2017 Miss Crow Fair Rodeo Queen, and a Miss INFR contestant said she, "learned a lot. There were things I didn't know about agriculture." The youngest a endee was 9-year-old Elle Ganoung who, when asked if she wanted to be a rodeo queen someday, shook her blonde curls no and stated she, "wants to barrel race." When informed that several rodeo queens are also barrel racers her eyes lit up. Aryanna Minemyer, the 2019 Miss Cody Stampede Senior Princess, and the 2020 Cowley Rodeo Queen, is running for the 2021 Miss Lovell Mustang Days Rodeo and hopes to eventually run for Miss Cody Stampede. Aryanna said she had a ended to gather more informa on and refine what she already knew. Taylor Cheney (age 12) who has just earned her first tle, 2021 Princess Cowley Riding Club a week prior to this clinic said, grinning from ear to ear, she liked being rodeo royalty and liked the clinic. There were four girls who men oned their aspira ons to wear the gold and jade crown someday represen ng Wyoming. Clinic a endees also included Holly Riesland from Cheyenne, Payton Bischoff the 2021 Cowley Rodeo Queen, Mikayla Burichka, 2021 Big Horn Rodeo Circuit Queen, and Shayla Conner, the 2021 Miss Sheridan WYO Queen. MRWA Na onal Director Crystal Myers, answered ques ons regarding the upcoming MRW 2022 pageant and handed out informa on including a preliminary schedule, a rulebook, and an applica on to those interested in running for MRW 2022. Saturday June 5, 2021 will be the last of the 2021 one day free clinic series and will be held in Douglas, WY at the Wyoming State Fair Grounds, 400 W Center St in the Board Room. You do not have to be pre- registered to a end but are welcome to pre-register through the Miss Rodeo Wyoming Facebook page. The session will start at 10:00 AM and run to 3 PM. Lunch will be provided. The Miss Rodeo Wyoming Associa on Horsemanship Clinic will be held Friday, June 18th from noon - 4 PM and Saturday, June 19th from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM in Casper, WY at the BS Ranch. The MRWA Horsemanship Clinic is for current rodeo royalty, anyone running for a tle and anyone ages 10 and older wan ng to broaden their skills. The BS Ranch, owned by Bob and Shannon Bellomy, is located 25.4 miles southwest of Casper at 14900 HWY 220 Casper WY. The clinic fee of $135.00 includes a cket to the College Na onal Finals Rodeo, the stall fee and clinic instruc on. Prior a endance of a MRWA local clinic is not required.
