42 The WRANGLER, Horse and Rodeo News • September 5-19, 2021 As 2020-2021 Miss Rodeo Wyoming Rachel Derner reflects on her past two years serving the state of Wyoming she said "2021 has been a lot more like the year I expected. I got to go to all the Wyoming PRCA Rodeos. It has definitely been awesome. The rodeo venues have been packed and many were sold out. Everyone is celebra ng the patrio sm they see at the rodeos, which means a lot in mes like this in our country." As Rachel looks toward the 2022 Miss Rodeo America Pageant November 28 thru December 5, 2021 in Las Vegas, Nevada at the South Point Hotel, Casino, and Spa she has a few more rodeos in Wyoming that she will be a ending. One of those events is the Evanston Cowboy Days in Evanston, WY September 3rd thru the 6th, 2021. Rachel stated that "There is a reason Miss Rodeo Wyoming gets a crown and not a glass slipper. A glass slipper fits one size only but the crown fits the hat of whoever receives the tle." When asked what she has gained from being 2020-2021 Miss Rodeo Wyoming Rachel said "The networking and career connec ons I have made within the industry have been amazing. I hope that in the future they will lead to job opportuni es." Rachel has not only been a leader for Miss Rodeo Wyoming Associa on she also served as the 2015-2016 Wyoming State FFA Reporter. Rachel says "Make the most of any opportunity you have in life. Time is so limited and you may only have that opportunity once. I don't want to look back and say I wish I had done that. I accepted every opportunity I have been offered the past two years. It may have seemed a li le crazy at mes but I have no regrets!" Thursday August 19, 2021 the new 2022 Miss Rodeo Wyoming Sierra Butler was named at the Wyoming State Fair PRCA Rodeo. Sierra will serve as the Miss Rodeo Wyoming Lady-In- Wai ng un l January 1st, 2022 when she will become 2022 Miss Rodeo Wyoming. Sierra says "It has been a whirlwind weekend since winning the tle of Miss Rodeo Wyoming 2022! If the last three days have been any indica on as to what is to come, I cannot be more excited! I have been amazed at the generosity and kindness shown to me the last few days. Words cannot explain the gra tude I feel. Not only to the friends and family that have supported me but also to the Miss Rodeo Wyoming Associa on, everything has been amazing as my first couple days as CONTESTANTS WITH GOVERNOR MARK GORDON are le to right: Sierra Butler, Holly Riesland, 2021 MRW Rachel Derner, Governor Mark Gordon, Shayla Conner, Jordan Lutz, and Madelanie McElwee 2022 MISS RODEO WYOMING SIERRA BUTLER Miss Rodeo Wyoming 2022! I am honored to be 2020-2021 Miss Rodeo Wyoming Rachel Derner's Lady-in Wai ng. Sierra Butler's first big event will be her corona on which will be held in Star Valley, Wyoming. The corona on will honor her and serve as a fundraiser to help support her year as Miss Rodeo Wyoming. Sierra will release all the details as they are finalized. Sierra was joined by four other Miss Rodeo Wyoming 2022 contestants, Holly Riesland (2021 Thermopolis Cowboy Rendezvous Rodeo Queen), Jordan Lutz (Miss Teton County Fair & Rodeo 2021, Madelanie McElwee (Miss Laramie Jubliee 2020), and Shayla Conner (Miss Sheridan WYO Rodeo. The judges included Audrey E a DeGrace (Arvada, Co), Megan Helmer (Fairfield, MT) and Lisa Murphy (Northwest Nebraska). The pageant started on August 16th and concluded on August 19th. Contestants were judged in mul ple categories including horsemanship, personality, and appearance. Other category winners were also announced during the crowning ceremony.
