November 5-19, 2021 • The WRANGLER, Horse and Rodeo News 35 As Miss Rodeo Wyoming 2021 Rachel Derner's reign is coming to a close we caught up with Rachel to get some insight into her perspec ve as the 2022 Miss Rodeo America Pageant approaches. Rachel how are you preparing for the 2022 Miss Rodeo America Pageant which is held in Las Vegas, Nevada November 28th thru December 5th, of 2021? I've been preparing since the day I was crowned by traveling to rodeos, watching, listening and asking ques ons. Now, as my rodeos are slowing down, I'm preparing by studying PRCA, WPRA, AQHA and current events. I've also been working to get my wardrobe ready for this long contest. makes it through her reign as a State Titleholder has the qualifica ons to be Miss Rodeo America. Just by displaying the horsemanship, knowledge and character that it takes to win a state tle and the grace that it takes to serve in that role, you have shown that you are capable. What the decision ul mately comes down to is just a set of opinions, from highly qualified judges. The outcome of the contest does not and will never determine the success of your reign. This year and in 2020 you kept us up to date on the Wyoming PRCA Cowboys and the WPRA Cowgirls on the Miss Rodeo Wyoming Facebook page. What words of encouragement can you share for our Wyoming cowgirls and cowboys? We, as Wyoming rodeo fans are so lucky to be able to cheer for four human athletes and many animal athletes this year. 2020 Resistol Rookie of the Year Cole Reiner of Kaycee returns to his second straight WNFR in the bareback riding. Hillsdale na ve Brody Cress has qualified for his fi h WNFR in the number three spot in saddle broncs. Represen ng the Cowboy State for the cowgirls of the WPRA, Gille e's Amanda Welsh will be running barrels at her first WNFR. Selected once more by his peers, the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) Dusty Tuckness will be working as a bullfighter at the WNFR. Stock contrac ng firms Burch Rodeo, Powder River and Summit all have animal athletes selected to perform at the 2021 WNFR. To top it off, the new CEO of the PRCA is a Wyoming Cowboy, Mr. Tom Glause. I'd like to send a big congratula ons to all of these incredible Wyomingites, I'm very proud of all of the hard work that it has taken to get you to this point. In other Miss Rodeo Wyoming Associa on news 2022 Miss Rodeo Wyoming Sierra Butler held her corona on on October 2, 2021 in Alpine, Wyoming. She had a phenomenal response from her community and the state of Wyoming. All of this support will be instrumental during her reign in 2022. Here are some of Sierra's observa ons of her corona on. "My corona on was everything and more than I asked for. I had so much support from my community and I cannot thank everyone enough. My highlight of the evening was when I received the crown and everyone stood up cheering for me. I felt so much love from everyone. I would like to recognize my pla num sponsors as they are a huge part of my success: Douglas Hardware Hank, Greys River Cove Resort, Flying Saddle Resort, The Hitching Rail, Jackson Hole Jewelers, Star Valley Health, Trac on Financial Partners, and the Wyoming State Fair." Sierra is currently gaining knowledge about her role as Miss Rodeo Wyoming 2022 and the connec ons she will make as she promotes rodeo and the state of Wyoming. Sierra said "My schedule, as Miss Rodeo Wyoming's Lady-in- MISS RODEO WYOMING 2021 Rachel Derner How do you deal with this very intense me leading up to the pageant? I've been working really hard so that I will be a representa ve that Wyoming can be proud of. One thing that gives me peace of mind is knowing that I made the most of my reign. I traveled as much as I could, a ended as many events and appearances as I could. I'll always have the memories from those experiences. Do you have some words of wisdom for everyone compe ng? Almost any young lady who Wai ng, during the remainder of 2021 is to a end the Mountain States PRCA Circuit Finals in Loveland, Colorado October 22-23 with 2021 Miss Rodeo Wyoming Rachel Derner. Then I will be heading to Las Vegas, November 28th thru December 5th, to cheer for Rachel as she competes for the tle of 2022 Miss Rodeo America."
