We don't like to do it, but sometimes the smarter thing is to know when to register earLy get off the horse and not "push thru the situation"! So we are reluctantly going to CANCEL the upcoming July 25-28 weekend at Circle L in Belgrade, which was to include a second 3-day Ken McNabb Horsemanship Clinic, a second Round Pen Shoot-Out, and culminating with a regular Ranch Horse Competition. In the meantime, before this Wrangler hits your mailboxes, we will have completed another Ranch Horse Competition on July 17, the fourth in our 2013 series, also at Circle L. Rod Cline is always a great host, and we thank him for his support over the years. Next on our calendar we'll be back in Ronan on August 9-10. Friday and Saturday evenings will be a RoundPen Shoot-Out. This is always a fun event to come and watch, as three trainers all try their hand at choosing, wrangling, haltering, saddling and mounting previously-unstarted colts, culminating with taking them thru an obstacle course at the end of the second evening. As well as the announcer's educated commentary, the trainers themselves always get the chance to talk to the audience and explain what they are trying to accomplish and how they are progressing. There's usually a little bit of unscheduled action, but hopefully not too much for their sake! Also, on that Saturday, August 10, is another of our Ranch Horse Competitions. All of this is leading up to our big weekend of the year, the RMBA Performance Horse Sale, on Saturday August 24 at Deer Lodge. We'll be telling you more about that as the time approaches, but for now be sure to mark that date on your calendars! We have almost 60 primarily Quarter Horses consigned, from weanlings to well-started horses to bred mares. Always remember, if you're looking up and seeing a cinch, it's probably going to be a bad day! When he first became interested in equine massage in 1997, Jim recognized that the horse exhibits certain neurological responses to touch as it releases tension in the body. Using those responses to guide his work, he developed a system in which the horse participates in the process by showing the practitioner where tension has accumulated, precisely how much pressure is needed to release it, and when it has been released. The result is an effective method of bodywork that anyone can learn to use, to improve performance while at the same time opening new levels of communication and trust with the horse. 74 The WrangleR, Horse and Rodeo News • July 20 - August 4, 2013 Thank You!
