One of the most feel-good ropings of 2021
generated about 170 new toys at Christmas for
small children throughout Goshen and Niobrara
Coun es. Every cent over labor and stock costs of
Clark and Associates Land Brokers' annual Toys For
Tots roping on November 28 paid for Christmas
gi s for teachers and kids throughout the area.
"I knew that Rick and Jimmie Jo Montera had
put on a similar roping around Greeley, Colorado,
and I thought our communi es could benefit from
doing the same thing," said business owner Cory
Clark.
He and fellow C&A agent Michael McNamee
produced the third annual roping at the Goshen
County Fairgrounds for the first me, since it
outgrew Clark's residence in Lusk. The most recent
Toys For Tots Roping featured its usual handicap
drawpot, capped at a 12.5, but this me also
added a 10.5 pick-and-draw.
Hearts were warmed to see 19-year-old Bodie
Herring of Veteran roping sharp. He placed sixth
with his sister Brenna and also won the 10.5 with
Brock Merrill to split $1,460, just five months a er
he'd a ended his dad Crocke 's funeral in the
same arena.
Kash Reynolds, 17, drove down from Gille e
with his dad, Quen n, and brother, Quincy, and all
three were packing paychecks when they headed

home early that a ernoon. Kash placed third in
the 10.5 and won the drawpot, too, with Blake
Afdahl, to pocket $1,230 as the day's high-money
winner.
The staggering number of toys generated
included dozens brought to the jackpot by ropers
and dozens more purchased a erward or donated
by groups like the Torrington Li le League
baseball program. Clark and McNamee then spent
me distribu ng toys to every preschool and
kindergarten student in Lusk, Torrington, Lingle
and Yoder, plus gave every elementary teacher in
both coun es gi cards to local coffee shops.
