Be brave and enter! EVERY disappointment at the show is a learning opportunity..... Be humble, be open to change. Everyone gets nervous. Everyone has bad days. Everyone makes mistakes. Literally: EVERYONE! Don't watch others in the warmup ring and start changing what you have been doing - if you see something cool or you want to step up your game that's homework for a er the show! When we run out of knowledge, we o en punish our horses. Seek help instead. Be a compe tor! But be a horseman first. There is always someone watching who sees you as a role model. Suppor ng your fellow compe tors and engaging with people will enrich your show life. Know the rules of compe on! Make sure your a re and tack is legal. Read the rule book, ask ques ons and be well prepared. Have FUN, don't sweat the small stuff!" ~Julia Keil Quibell~ As we start the "spring" season and get our horses ready for showing, please read Ms. Quibell's message and HAVE FUN! We all go into the show pen wan ng to win, otherwise why would we be there? But, be that compe tor that make a difference. And, don't sweat the small stuff! Good luck to everyone that will be brave enough to go into the pen, whether you are showing, VRH classes, barrel racing, any kind of compe on we love with our 4 legged animals. Congratula ons, to Syd Wilson and her horse He's Got It Goin On (Gus) on their Circuit Championship at the Sun Circuit! Also compe ng at the Sun Circuit was Barb Bouma and Kyra Ley. These ladies did amazing at the Show. Barb Barb & Roger Tha 1st, 2nd, 3rd (1st overall, out of 43) in the L1 Select Trail. AQHA NEWS: American Horse Council By unanimous vote of the American Horse Council's board of trustees, three new at-large trustees have been elected to serve two-year terms star ng in June 2022: Aus n Halvorson, filling the young adult at- large seat; Christy Landwehr, filling the general at-large seat; and Jus ne Staten, represen ng the Coali on of State Horse Councils. The AHC board consists of 12 equine industry leaders from major associa ons including the American Associa on of Equine Prac oners, American Quarter Horse Associa on, Na onal Thoroughbred Racing Associa on, The Jockey Club, United States Equestrian Federa on and United States Tro ng Associa on. In 2018, AHC added two at-large seats to the board (CSHC and general at- large) to provide a greater level of inclusion to ensure the organiza on is truly representa ve of a variety of stakeholder interest groups. In 2021, the board added a young adult at-large seat to further expand its diversity. Aus n Halvorson of Liberty Hill, Texas, has been passionate about equine-related advocacy since his first trip to Washington, D.C., on behalf of the American Quarter Horse Youth Associa on in 2014. Since then, Halvorson has worked in the halls of congress, the Texas Legislature, poli cal campaigns, for lobbying groups and now for a poli cal law firm. Halvorson is a graduate of Texas A&M University and has served as the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Youth Associa on president (2010-2014), American Quarter Horse Youth Associa on Board of Directors (2010-2014), AQHYA president (2013-2014), Phi Delta Theta fraternity pledge class president (2014-2015) and College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Council at Texas A&M (2016- 2018). Christy Landwehr of Aurora, Colorado, is the chief execu ve officer of the Cer fied Horsemanship Associa on. Landwehr sits on the AQHA professional horsemen council and the AQHA Marke ng Commi ee. Landwehr is past president of the American Youth Horse Council and past board member for the Colorado Horse Council. She also founded, competed on and coached the University of Colorado at Boulder Intercollegiate Horse Show Associa on equestrian team. Landwehr also sits on the Colorado State University Equine Sciences Advisory Council and Colorado Society of Associa on Execu ves Board. She is the current treasurer for the Interscholas c Equestrian Associa on and serves on the APHA professional horseman council. Jus ne Staten of Kansas is the execu ve director of the Kansas Horse Council and incoming CSHC chair. Staten has extensive experience in the equine industry with family involvement in 4-H and the Blackjack Saddle Club. She provides equine educa on at the annual Riley County SYD WILSON and her horse He's Got It Goin On (Gus) BARB BOUMA
