58 The WRANGLER, Horse and Rodeo News • May 5-19, 2022 The Miss Rodeo Wyoming Associa on (MRWA) announced today that Madelaine McElwee will take over the du es of Miss Rodeo Wyoming 2022 a er the resigna on of Sierra Butler. McElwee was 1st-Runner Up at the Miss Rodeo Wyoming 2022 Pageant and will immediately take over the du es with her first appearance being at the University of Wyoming Art Gala on April 9th, 2022 in Laramie, WY. McElwee was born and raised in Laramie, WY. Growing up, McElwee had a natural love for horses. When she was five years old, she began taking riding lessons, and from then on, her passion for riding and the western way of life flourished. She competed in 4-H horse shows, the Laramie Jubilee Days Kids Horse Show, and eventually moved on to compete in American Quarter Horse Associa on (AQHA) reining shows. She competed at the AQHA Youth Worlds Horse Show in 2018. When she was 16, she took up an interest in avia on, and began taking flying lessons. In May of 2020, she earned her private pilot's license, followed by her instrument ra ng in December of that same year, her tailwheel endorsement in January of 2021, and her commercial pilots license the following May. She is excited to con nue her flight training with her mul -engine ra ng, and flight instructor licenses. In 2019, McElwee was crowned Miss Laramie Jubilee 2020. She had an amazing me as Lady-In-Wai ng, however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic was not able to fulfill her du es and had her tle extended to 2021. In the future, McElwee hopes to be able to fly airplanes for a living and con nue to embrace the western lifestyle. In a Facebook post, on April 8, 2022, McElwee stated "I am eternally grateful to hold the tle of Miss Rodeo Wyoming and look forward to promo ng the sport rodeo throughout my year." A celebration introducing McElwee as Miss Rodeo Wyoming 2022 will be held in Laramie, WY with more details being released soon. She will travel the country representing the state of Wyoming and the professional sport of rodeo, as well as preside over the Miss Rodeo Wyoming 2023 pageant, August 15-18, 2022 during the Wyoming State Fair. McElwee will then compete for the title of Miss Rodeo America 2023 in Las Vegas November 27-December 4, 2022 during the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.
