Calf Roping isn't just pasture work anymore.
The May edition is devoted to highlighting the calf horse. Calf roping has come a long way from the cowboys in the
pasture on the ranch catching the calves to brand or doctor for medical treatment. The modern-day calf horse is a
highly skilled athlete that has the burst of speed out of the box, yet, be in constant control helping his partner every
step of the way to get the flag dropped and the clock stopped.
On the cover and above to the left is Rodeos Beach Babe (Badgers Rodeo Red X BCS Beach Babe (Popular
Resortfigure)) who is owned by S Heart Ranch/Shawn Kautz. This amazing mare is just 5 years old and we can't
wait to continue to watch her win money in multiple events. More and more of the bigger futurities are offering calf
roping and breakaway roping as a well-funded futurity events. The Royal Crown, the Fizz Bomb (Gillette, WY) and
the American Rope Horse Futurity Assocation are events that have calf roping and breakaway roping as part of their
futurity offerings.
The futurity world is BOOMING for barrels, team roping, breakaway roping AND calf roping! Here at The WRANGLER
we are working hard to be your one stop shop for current futurity news. Don't forget to check us out online and on
social media. You can now subscribe online at thewrangler.com/subscribe as well as manage your account (change
address, order past copies) online. Next month, let's talk team roping.
