BARN NEWS AND MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE: Thanks to the LOR Foundation grant, LOTRA has purchased a Black Widow groomer, which we be- gan using the first week in April in time for the April 6 & 7 Final Jackpot Saddle Series. We had Jay Brower, of Brower Arena Specialists, visit our barn and consult on the ground and what we could do to improve the footing. His first recommendation was to purchase a Black Widow groomer, based on the size of our arena, the size of our tractor, and the type of rider and event use. We believe our members will like the improvements. Please thank Peggy and Bob Bartlett and John Gazso for the extra work they put into getting the Black Widow to Lander and learning how to use it. Thanks to the LOTRA board members for all their support. The LOTRA members - and their horses - are going to love our improved arena ground. The indoor arena has gotten a lot of use this win- ter and spring and we love it! We are grooming the indoor arena a minimum of 5 times per week! This has improved our riding experience with better footing and dust control. To help maintain the arena ground, we are closing the barn for regular maintenance on the 1st and 3rd Monday mornings from 8 a.m. until noon of each month. Please clean up after your horses and your own cattle. BARN USE & RENTAL: LOTRA is providing the indoor barn at no cost for the 4-H Horse Program practices on Wednesday evenings from 5-7 pm. These practices started Wednesday, May 8 and go through July 17 so the 4-H members can prepare for the 4-H Horse Show as part of the Fremont County Fair on July 19 & 20. Please accommodate them on those Wednesday evening and plan to ride in the barn at a different time. Contact Jennifer Scribner for more informa- tion at jkilpat3@gmail.com. Lander Fremont Toyota Pioneer Days Rodeo On April 27 & 28 the barn was reserved for a breakaway roping clinic by Willow Wilson. Thanks to Willow Wilson and Caitlan Thorne for putting on this event. It was a full clinic, and the par- ticipants had a great learning experience for 2 days. Thanks to Peggy Bartlett and John Gazso for preparing the arena and working the ground for the weekend. LOTRA should be proud of the ground improvements and the experience we are providing for these special events. We are actively working to make more improve- ments this year. The LOR Foundation gave LOTRA a $26,000 grant for improvements to our barn and programs. The board is working on the projects to use these funds. The LOR grant has purchased the Black Widow groomer, an improved roping chute, a saddle for the Jackpot series awards, a new computer, and paid for the ground consultant. We also received a grant from the Lander Rec Board, which will be used to continue to replace the 40-year-old barn roof. A current LOTRA membership form is on our website at LOTRA.org. Mail your membership form and check to LOTRA, PO Box 632; Lander, WY, 82520.
