September, 2024 • The WRANGLER • 35 check from generous donors, Bruce and Deb Murray of Douglas, Wyoming. "The Wyoming Breast Cancer Initiative is incredibly thankful for the Wyoming State Fair and how they've used their platform to not only educate Wyomingites about WBCI's mission, but to also help raise funds so we can continue to help more families in Wyoming," Cathy shared. During the Thursday night performance, Courtny Conkle, flanked by members of the State Fair Board, presented the Inaugural "Code of The West" award to none other than the rodeo's Superintendent, Rebecca (Becky) Podio. The Code of The West award was created to acknowledge individuals who exemplify the pillars and values of what it means to be in agriculture and western industries. Miss Conkle stated, "She epitomizes the integrity, the commitment to western heritage, and the values that we hold dear, and it was really wonderful to be able to support and recognize her." Becky has served as the Rodeo Superintendent for four years now. She has worked tirelessly for the board and the rodeo to orchestrate and coordinate all aspects of the production behind the scenes. Her work has been instrumental to the overall success and redefining of the PRCA rodeo. She was given a beautiful Montana Silversmiths bracelet and etched glass momento for her contributions on the arena floor. Two other Code of the West awards were given during the week-long event. The two day rodeo wouldn't be complete without the crowning of Miss Rodeo Wyoming. For nearly seventy years the Miss Rodeo Wyoming pageant has been promoting agriculture and the sport of rodeo across the state. This year's coronation ceremony took place on Thursday evening during the latter part of the performance. The sweet send off of reigning Miss Rodeo Wyoming Queen, Bailey Mackey, was met with the crowning of Miss Cody Nite Rodeo, Dusty Miller, of Cowley. Bailey will now have the opportunity to represent Wyoming at the Miss Rodeo America pageant in Las Vegas in December. When asked what makes Miss Rodeo Wyoming so special to the rodeo, National Director Crystal Meyers replied, "She garners great experiences that will lay a solid foundation for her future."
