Our association is known for hosting many cow horse and stock horse events in Wyoming year-round. CSSHA SUMMER 2024 SHOWS: CSSHA will hold the Laurie Gardner Memorial Ranch Days, June 15th & 16th at the Fremont County Fairgrounds in Riverton, WY. A saddle will be awarded to the High Point Youth and a buckle will go to the High Point Open Rider. Entry forms are available at our website, CSSHAClub.com. Saturday, June 15: Open Draw Team Sort, Youth Draw Team Sort, Youth Flag Race, Youth Sack Race Sunday, June 16: Open Team Ranch Branding, Open Iron Man/Woman Event, Youth Goat Ribbon Tie, and Youth Egg & Spoon Race Do you want to know what the Open Iron Man/Woman competition is? It's a breakaway rope + barrel pattern + goat tying ALL IN ONE CONTINUOUS RUN! This is going to be fun! And we hear some youth are practicing for the Youth Sack Race already. The kids ride to a large sack, dismount, step into the sack, and then hop to the end of the arena, LEADING THEIR HORSE! We'll find out whose horse is broke to lead! Cowboy State Classic: CSSHA will host a combined AQHA/VRH-Approved Show, NRCHA Derby, Futurity, Horse Show & Bridle Spectacular on August 21-25 in Big Piney, WY at the Sublette County Fairgrounds. The Cowboy State Classic show is hosted by CSSHA and being organized by CSSHA members Rives and Stephanie White and Kari Sack. Please help us share the word about this August show. The CSSHA board voted to have $10,000 added money between these AQHA & NRCHA shows. For show questions, call 307-231-3505. SPRING 2024 CLINICS: CSSHA held two clinics this spring for CSSHA members to prepare for the summer show season. Thanks to all the riders, and to the family who brought their youth, who joined us! Special thanks to Gary Cooper and Matt Kelly for being clinicians, to Jori Skaggs and Paula McCormick for being clinic directors, and to the Fremont County 4-H Horse Judging Team for Saturday lunches. CSSHA held the weekend Horsemanship Clinic by Gary Cooper on March 30-31 in Thermopolis, WY. Thanks to all who attended, who braved the weather reports and who gave their time and energy to learn from an excellent clinician, Gary, and his assistant Casey. Photos are on our Facebook page. The second spring clinic was a Cow Horse Clinic by Matt Kelly held May 4 & 5 in Thermopolis, WY. Participants had time over two days to work on drywork, the flag, and cattle. Photos are on the CSSHA Facebook page and in The Wrangler. CSSHA EVENTS IN THE PLANNING: At the April CSSHA meeting, the board voted to partner with the Thermopolis Sorting Series for 2024-2025. Marty Kenison was appointed as sorting committee chair, with members Scott Ratliff, Jim Horn, Barbara Martin, Jori Skaggs, and Rod Rivers plus the Thermopolis Sorting Series members. Sorting dates are set for November 9 and December 14 in 2024, and January 11, February 8, March 8 and April 12 in 2025. CSSHA is working with Central Wyoming College to hold its 2024/2025 Winter Jackpot Series again. They are hoping to schedule events the first weekends of November and December 2024, and January and February 2025. More details will be coming. CSSHA CLUB MEETING INFO: Monthly Club Meetings are usually held on the first Thursday evening of each month at Scott Ratliff's home in Riverton WY, and a Zoom link is provided to call in for members outside of the area. Sometimes the meeting date and location changes, so check our Facebook page for the most up-to-date info. The June Meeting is planned for Thursday, June 6. Several CSSHA members have volunteered to serve on a Fremont County Fair committee to advise on how the old Central Wyoming College equine facility might be used to support equine activities in the area. Thanks to Scott Ratliff for driving this effort. 2024 Membership: Individual CSSHA club memberships are still $20/year for 2024. A family membership is only $25/year. CSSHA will hold a new event, the Laurie Gardner Memorial Ranch Days, on June 15th & 16th at the Fremont County Fairgrounds in Riverton, WY.
